    • It is expensive1 But compared to the RED Scarlet and Sony F3, is not way off. It is a good piece off equipment. Is sealed!! Non of the other cameras has it! Alexa , yes, but is 75.000… I think the price will come before release or a while after it. I used so many cameras and I think I know what I’m talking about. Did many many days on RED. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. That it is the biggest problem. They way they are build.. SUCKS big time!! mini connectors.. The menu?? incredible stupid. All these different codecs for every framerate… ??? 4K ? Do we make Blockbusters for IMAX ?? Don’t think so.. 4K makes post production cumbersome and longer.. More money!!! The Canon is a great tool. Shoot be some cheaper?? Oh yeah.. I wish. Would it be nice to have dual link 4:4:4 out like the Sony F3,..? Oh yeah!! But probably it would be so good with the sensor it has, it would kill all the other brands. That they can not do, because they make tons of lenses sold for Sony’s Panasonics etc… So there are political reasons they limit the possibilities of this camera.. We are foold every way. But the C300 is , in my opinion, the best way to be fooled.

      • Shooting with RED for many years… never had one RED not working on set…. Scarlet basic package ready to shoot 14k$…. Canon 20K$ just the camera…. 4k for IMAX only??? No… 4k for any serious post production that you will need to face… Try to make serious color correction or 3D integration in canon c300 material…. good luck….. If you are talking about amateur work then agree, but then you will go better for 7D or Mark II…. Again, what for the 20k$??? Another thing… You can convert the material 4k to 2k or less with red software before jumping into post… free software. The problem is Canon present c300 like for proffesional use and is for amateur use….

      • @JulioFernandez Shot many music videos on RED. Not so many prblems. some hick ups.. But shooting a feature film in Januari gave lots of problems. The Reddrives suck big time. They gave me error over error because of the cold. I calculated that we lost at least an hour every day or more, because of that. That is 35 housr over the 35 days. That makes 3 more shooting days. That is a lot of money. The C300 is for professional use!! Even the Canon 5D is for prfessional use! In the hands of real professionals it is! I won awrds with a film made with the Canon XL1s… A film shot on the Canon 5D won awards on the Sundance Film festival and was sold for 13 million… Any camera can be professional if you now how..!!!

The RED is not real 4K by the way but 2.7K…

      • I was shooting for 8 years with RED in Russia…. In winter -25 celsius… Never a problem… Didn’t made features with RED but tons of commercials, music clips, etc… As i said never had a problem. MArk II and 7D are not proffesional video cameras no matter that low budget works are using it… Tons of grain, jpeg recording system (huge compression), problems of lighting…. As i said, if you have a serious post production involved and you use 7D or Mark II… good luck…. and sorry… not any camera can be proffesional if you know how…. There are limitations in cameras that can make their use impossible mission… Each project requires it’s own equipment…. If you don’t have the money for it, you can cheat it or try to… but that is all…

      • @JulioFernandez Well I have two mayor features coming up for next year and shure no RED on the set. 🙂 Cameras will be Arri Alexa or Sony F65, if it comes out on time to do some testing. I will need global shutter anyway, because the RED give to much rolling shutter and problems with shooting guns etc…

For low budget productions and documentaries we will go with the Canon C300 or Sony F3.

But I’m just an Amateur.. hahahaha… And everybody that made Award winning movies on 7D and 5D MKII and made millions are just amateurs…But very good filmmakers!!

      • i dont see the connection in making millions and the kind of camera use… As far as i know there are more millions made with film cameras and red cameras than 7D and MArk II and any other of this kind all together… But i am not here to talk about that but to give my 30 years experience in the business according the equipment for people that want to hear opinions… I was just pointing my view and don’t need to go into discussion with you. I promise you that i don’t get comission from RED company… I didn’t said you are an amateur, i don’t have such info and i am not interested in it to be honest . i wish you lots of success with your c300 or whatever camera and equipment you will pick.

  2. Sin duda el Canon !! Fiabilidad !!! He rodado mucho con RED, porque me obligan. Demasiado prblemas.!!
